I am offering imperfect fine art prints for sale. The prints that I am of

fering are pictured above and all of these images have been featured on this blog. They were made for a gallery show and most have sustained some sort of slight damage in the process--which is why they are priced cheap.

All fine prints are full-bleed 8x12 printed on a luster Endura paper. There is no white border, so I will sign the back of the print, but obviously, the signature will not show once framed. Furthermore, I will sign the top or bottom depending on which end I would rather not have cut off. The print is full-frame, but unless you have it professionally matted, you will have trouble finding an 8x12 frame. So, most likely it will be in an 8x10 and 2-inches will get cut off to make it fit. Again, this is why they are priced cheaply.

"PULP!" has been an ongoing series of shoots that pay homage to the crime pulps of the early-to-mid 20th century. They are the joint effort of Kitty Maer and myself.

I have returned...for now.

I had to give up the blog to free myself for a while. I am currently working on demos for a new album with my band, and finding myself deep in production for my first graphic novel titled "1888." Well, that, and the fact I needed to start shooting again.

So, during the respite I got involved with the Australian web journal Horror Sleaze Trash. They posted a profile on my work HERE, and I shot a short series for their Horror Sleaze Trash Girls series with a new model, Elle Tyler.

I would like to thank HST for the opportunity, Kitty Maer for her involvement, and Elle for being such a good sport.

To some, such a sight would evoke emotions ranging from shock to anger. But for those that understand this practice, the healing wounds become adornments not unlike gifted jewelry. PXE wore hers very proudly.

Pin-Up Photography

In my late teens I became a huge fan of Bettie Page and all of the Irving Claw pin-up and early fetish photos and models. But as I have grown older, I have failed to the value of recreating those images in the traditional style with modern equipment without deconstruction or some artistic interpretation of some kind. They were perfect the first time. Thus, I have turned down requests to do "pin-up" photography.

However, while shooting this model, I was amazed when she created this outfit from the studio wardrobe and styled herself into this "pin-up." Genius on her part, I say. Lucky me.

These are images from the first shoot I did with Luna Brenn. An absolutely lovely girl, and more importantly, she possesses the patience of a saint (most likely why I made her up as one for this shoot). Due to technical/logistical problems I shot this in a tiny corner of the bedroom with a floor lamp. No lighting rig, no studio, nothing went right that morning. If anything, these shots are a testament to the fact you would have to be totally inept to take a bad shot of her.

The second shot will appear in the Mammoth Book of New Erotic Photography (Running Press) on November 2nd, 2010 in Europe and North America.

Maggie Six

"Edie," as Maggie Six went by at the time, was, and remains, the most tattooed model I have shot. Because tattoos have become so popular for alternative and art models, many people (including many photographers) may not realize the danger of shooting someone with a lot of tattoos: the images become about the tattoos only. For this reason I tend to favor working with models with no tattoos that can better serve as a clean, more malleable pallet for my work. But that isn't to say I haven't had success shooting tattooed girls, I have.

Edie is an exception. Her deviant adornments aren't for show; they are her true expression of herself. She is a deviant. It is my suspicion that many get inked because of a longing to be identified with a scene or particular subculture. With that you tend to see a lot of folks with a similar "look." Edie, however, is made of the fabric that so many try to weave themselves into.

I'll be posting more from this shoot down the road, but for now, I wanted to post this singular image.

Lucy's Lips

Lucy Dominga. This is from our 3rd shoot. This was a rushed job here, but it did yield some respectable shots. I think this was one of the shoots I did where I begin to "get" black and white photography. Since, I have been entangled in a struggle to take my color photography seriously. Bringing the same artistic gravity to a color shot is more difficult in my mind.

Anyway, I was happy with the shoot because Lucy gave me a smoldering intensity that afternoon and I was lucky enough to capture it. The lips are the ling that strikes me most. Those swollen, angry lips.

Laughing, Never Smiling

Out of all of the shoots I have done I think I have only once asked a model to smile for the shot. That was the last shoot for Motel Cream, and I wanted a 1970s "big titty state fair poster" image. Nothing, but nothing looks as phony as a naked girl smiling to me. I suppose this comes from the American tradition of "smile for the camera." I always felt fake as a child smiling for the camera and never understood why I had to.

I attempt to create images born from real sexuality; honest sexuality. Sex is fun and can induce smiling, but I think most often it induced giggling and laughter. It is how adult humans play. It is supposed to be fun. It is our release and escape from the world in which we live.

In capturing an image, I would rather make the model laugh than have her smile into the lens. The smile she will give me will be forced, but her laugh is real. Afterall, a great laugh is one of strongest signals women have to attract a mate; it tells our primitive male instinct that she is healthy and enjoys her life, and that is something we all want.

Broken Belle

"Broken Belle" was the first attempt I made in a studio. Graced with Decca Harrow and armed with a Canon SD200 snapshot, a hot light, and a makeup kit, I went to work. Mind you, I hadn't even begun to master any of these tools. At this point I was experimenting with all of it, trying to get something worth keeping. I'll be posting the final image from this shoot later on; my first cropping portrait.

"Tomcat" was the second collaboration with Kitty Maer and Decca Harrow where we planned and coordinated an on-location themed shoot. This time we also brought Sarah Ellis into the mix.

In this little story, Decca plays the part of a WWI aviator who engages his commanding officer's lonely wife in a clandestine liaison. We were very fortunate to have access to a wonderful location with a fully French-tutor style house.

The set was our second joint project that go published. This one, like "Riff Raff" was published by Stern.de web zine. I am still very proud of these images and I hope you enjoy this week's tale.

Model: Sophie King

This was my first time working with Sophie King; you might remember her from my first post on the blog. I think I had met her through photographer Chas Ray Krider, like I had Sasha. Sophie was new to me in that she has a lot of body mods and tattoos--something I was unfamiliar with shooting. But where the tattoos might be the draw to some photographers, I was drawn to Sophie's personality.

The set we used was were hair and makeup are done before shoots. I wanted more scenery with her which was probably me trying to counterbalance her inked skin. In the end the shoot ran along a loose theme that Sophie acted out to serve a sexual dominant that she had created in her mind. I especially like the shot of her imagining getting spanked.

Model: Lucy Dominga

While my foray into the world of safe photography was proving unrewarding, I had a sudden break with my original collaborator, Decca Harrow, which left me feeling hollow. Frankly, I wasn't feeling up to shooting anymore. I needed a shot in the arm; preferably one that was beautiful, fearless, and had a penchant for riding crops. Enter, Lucy Dominga.

When I met Lucy, she was a creative writing major that had never really modeled before. After asking repeatedly to shoot her, she finally relented and agreed to a non-nude shoot. I took the opportunity because I was convinced Lucy could be a great model and I wanted to earn her trust as a n artistic collaborator. My patience paid off for both of us.

The shoot happened, and as you can see, it was a little less tame than anticipated. Not exactly what i had expected, but I was very happy with the images; I had found exactly what I needed to re-energize my work.

Then the shots from this shoot were posted Lucy became an overnight sensation; photographers from all over Ohio, then all over America began clamoring for the chance to shoot with her. Indeed, I had created a monster.

I'm very happy to say that I will once again collaborate with Lucy in the coming months and, in the meantime, I'll be posting shots from our past shoots here. You can also check out her photo blog titled Lucy Fears the Morning Star.

Fashion Foray

The cache of erotic art images I had built with Decca did afford me to begin working with other models, but I found most girls wanted to shoot what they thought of as "Fashion." After listening to their uninformed description of Fashion photography, I found that the popular idea of Fashion, in the Midwest, is actually what is known professionally as conservative "Catalogue Fashion" and nothing like the popular term used: "High Fashion."

After turning down a lot of inquires to shoot conservative "Catalogue Fashion" I began to accept, because I didn't want to reject working with anyone just because they choose to stay clothed. This novice mistake lead to a short run of "fashion" and head shot sessions with mixed results.

After working with only one model for about a year, this forced me to work on my communication skills woth new subjects. It also provided the obvious challenge of learning to shoot different subjects quickly. Although I got some good shots, I found that this wasn't my scene. I had some models that were impatient, unappreciative of my effort, and they had no idea what fashion modeling and photography involved beyond what reality television had told them; they never even looked at fashion magazines. Since it is your "dream" to be "America's Next top Model," why would you?

In addition to finding out I was indeed in the Midwest, the shoots were a point of frustration because I could see what images could be if these models were willing to commit to their work of creating art (or "porno" to my mainstream Midwestern readers.) The final images were strong and they gave the viewer beauty, but not much substance.

Soon after, I decided that this was not for me. If there is no sex in the images, there is nothing of me in them. Now, that isn't to say I gave up on Fashion; I just made a decision about with whom I would collaborate in the future.

Photography, for all of the Photoshop techniques employed, is a very honest medium to me; if I'm not shooting authentically, the images will reflect it and there is no way to cover it up.

Riff Raff (Part 1)

A couple of months after I began shooting I organized my first themed shoot with Kitty Maer. "Riff Raff" is my visual homage to the suburban Heavy Metal subculture,that not only helped shape my musical sensibilities, but also had a terrible hand in my sexual development.

This celebration of Back Yard Heavy Metal was published by Stern Web Magazine in Germany. Here are some selections from my personal archives; some images have been "unfit" to be shown anywhere...until now.

Decca Part 3

I have to say that I am glad I decided to post Decca Harrows's shots this weekend. It forced me to go through my archives and take a critical look at what I have done over the past three years. Obviously I see many improvements to my shooting since I began, but I also found some gems that I completely disregarded when they were first shot. I refinished a couple this morning. All three were from our first two attempts.

This last shot, however, is from one of the last sessions I did with Decca Harrow. I surprised her when she came over to the studio to say hello and we did a quick 30 minute shoot. This image may be my favorite; the energy is raw, elegant, and deviant. It also brings up the fact that her photographic vocabulary was wasted upon my novice talents at the time; I lacked the ability to give her a proper platform to deliver. At least I was lucky sometimes.

I'll be posting some excerpts from a couple of the big production shoots Kitty Maer and I did with her later on. For now, I'm going to meditate on this image; I think this one has something special; something I want to delve deeper into.

Model: Decca Harrow

The incomparable Decca Harrow was the first model I ever shot. For the first year that I was shooting she was the only model I shot. I didn't have a portfolio and no one knew me. If it wasn't for her, I would have never been able to develop my craft. She gave me the necessary collaboration to build strong material to attract more models. She was patient as I learned to apply women's makeup, struggled with lighting, and she never backed down from a challenge.

Decca isn't a "model" per se, but a girl with a natural presence in front of the camera. She could do something that most models--no matter how much they shoot--can never master: she gives you something personal, something real, in her photos. She's a natural talent.

I wanted to show a little more of the work I have done with her. After that first outdoor shoot, we started to shoot regularly. Over the weekend I am going to post some of my favorite shots from these early shoots that, at least to me, still hold up. It may be mere nostalgia more than artistic merit in some cases, but these photos still move me, and that is what I try to achieve every time I shoot.

In the Beginning There was...

Boredom.

That's what got me shooting.

It was on an oddly cool August 18, 2007 that I was hanging out with a friend and we decided to do an impromptu shoot. These images are from the first shoot I ever did. No make up, no lights, no wardrobe; just me, a subject, and a $200 Canon point-n-shoot that the model, Decca Harrow, used to carry in her purse.

Well, cum...to Motel Cream!

I have finally broken down and started this blog for my photographic works since most of my work is not considered fit for the general public's consumption. So, here we are. I'm going to do my best to update this as much as I can so bare with me if I'm a little late sometimes.

I would like to kick off the blog with some of the images I shot last week for Motel Cream, a new clothing line started by one of my collaborators, Maggie Six. They are launching the on line store next week, so check them out. I fully endorse them and I wear their clothing.
